My Genuine Favorite Health Products List For Everyday
I had a request from a reader to share my favorite health products list on the blog. Sure, I’ve talked about some items before, but as life goes on, everything evolves, right? So I updated my list and even asked a friend for some more options.
You know how you always read, “I’m not a doctor, so consult yours.” Well, I am a doctor. Sure, a doctor of dental surgery and retired, but a doctor nonetheless. (But again always consult yours.)
Quote of the day: “The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for.” Maureen Dowd
Health. It’s a billion dollar industry. Why? Maybe because it’s something so abstract in a way. Maybe because our health system isn’t perfect (but then again what is perfect?). I’m not here to bash Western medicine, yet I want to point out some facts to help you realize your role in your health before sharing my favorite health products list.
Doctors are wonderful people. They entered into the profession to help others. Yet it’s not an easy journey.
First, most western medicine doctors get very little schooling in nutrition. Second, most of them take on a huge debt to get through medical school. And third, they are human and only know what they know. PLUS, they have to deal with insurance companies. (Not that insurance companies are bad, but keep in mind their goal is to make money, not to make you healthy).
“They only know what they know.” It’s a quote I used all the time when I was practicing dentistry. It’s true for EVERYONE. No one can know everything, so you can’t expect your doctor to either. That’s why it’s paramount to be your own advocate when dealing with your health.
What I have learned over the years is something that my stepmom always says, “Your health is the best investment you can make.” And if that isn’t the truth, I don’t know what is.
The other thing I’m going to insert here is how EVERY person’s body is different. While a medication or product can work for “most” people, your body chemistry is uniquely different than anybody else’s. So while this health product list is my favorite, there are things that may not work for you. That doesn’t mean, they aren’t good products, it just means you are special. (And we are all special)
Health Products List
What exactly constitutes health anyways? Everything has a side effect, so it’s finding items that the side effect is not as toxic as others. At least that’s my definition.
Now I have to laugh when I give you this list. Because when I first got out of dental school, I thought the people that used these natural products were “out there.” Which goes to show that our knowledge evolves.
FIRST AND FOREMOST….Food is the best medicine out there. We hear it all the time, but it’s huge. We are seeing a naturopath right now and learning more than we ever knew.
1- Colloidal Silver Gel and Liquid. I have talked about this in my Actinic Keratosis post which is the first changes skin cells CAN make before cancer. We use silver gel and the liquid as needed. If you google it, the mayo clinic will say there are no health studies saying it helps the immune system. All I can say, is you have to find what works for you.
2. Arnica Gel and Pills. This is a homeopathic medicine used for pain. Rob started using it for his shoulder, but now we take it for various aches.
Insider note: This works great for Rob and I, and it was even given to us by our naturopath at our initial visit. However, I recommended it to Bettye, and it didn’t work for her. Like I said above, EACH of us is very unique in our body chemistry.
3. Flu Tone. I was sick last winter, and used a homeopathic flu liquid. Since it was from my acupuncturist in Denver, I ordered this one online to replace it. I haven’t had to use it yet, but I’ll have it if I need it.
4-Sinus Pills. When my head is stuffy, I take these instead of Sudafed.
5-Cat Pain Liquid. Our cats are older and suffer from arthritis. We do give them glucosamine and chondroitin. However, this summer our one kitty, was losing fur on her back legs and the vet said it could be because of pain. So we started giving her this homeopathic pain liquid and the fur has grown back.
Now skin and beauty products are a whole other category. It can be overwhelming to try to change everything, but it’s good to realize that OF COURSE what we put on our skin affects our body.
Since I only know what I know, and I’m still learning much of the skin and beauty natural products, I asked a friend for help. This friend I have “met” through this blog and on Instagram and she has a medical background too.
My friends recommendations are this.
1-She used herbal teas for cold and tummy issues.
2-Essential oils for stuffy head, colds, and calming.
3–Jane Iredale for makeup
4-And just recently she started using Suzanne Organics. Actually because of her recommendation, I ordered some mascara from this site. I’ll give you the inside scoop soon.
Your Natural Products
It may seem obvious, but you have to trust the source of where you are buying your natural products. If you notice, much of our natural products list comes from Pure Formula and Nature’s Sunshine. Are they the best? Maybe and maybe not, but it’s what works for us right now.
If you’re concerned about the quality of your products, then you need to check out the labels, and research the company. It’s a lot of work, but your health is worth it. Can you find good products at Walgreens? Sure, but you have to do your due diligence.
What do you need to look for? Check the ingredients and google them. Why is there caramel coloring and strange additives in the “other ingredients”? That’s exactly what you don’t want.
