It is a common scene in Malaysia to come across mislabeled products. A lot of these products conceal harmful ingredients and the thought of it scares many. It’s like a time bomb for our health, especially for regular consumers. Thus it is only fitting to constantly remind food and beverage businesses to not stray from what is legally allowed.
21 Out Of 849 Food Products Contain Poison
Recently, the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has made an announcement regarding the ban of using fake labels and poisonous substances in food products. According to their research since 2019, a total of 21 products from 16 brands were found to contain scheduled poisons such as sildenafil, tadalafil, dexamethasone, and prednisolone.
It is clearly stated under Food act 1983 (section 13), that; “any individual who serves or sell food item that contains or carries poisonous ingredients, or anything that is harmful to health will receive a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten (10) years, or both.”
12 Unanimous Brands Are Still At Large
Upon discovery, legal actions were taken towards 4 of the said brands however, the remaining 12 of them provides fake or incomplete company name and address. With that being said, MOH forbids sellers from selling any of the products. This will also include online sellers as well. Those who still have the remaining stocks will be required to contact their nearest District Health Office.
Consumers Are Advised To Seek Medical Help Immediately
Thus, regular consumers of these products are advised to seek professional medical help IMMEDIATELY. Meanwhile, please remember friends to always be mindful of what we ingest. Try to avoid sketchy products that may contain harmful substances for your one safety and well being okay?
